Himachal This Week

Politicians leave no chance to reportedly convert a non-issue into a political issue but both the main political parties in Himachal are silent over one serious issue. It confronts a large section of the agrarian community besides horticulturists who are suffering heavily due to the menace of wild animals across the state. Population of stray and wild animals is on the rise but this issue fails to find a mention in political statements  in election year in the state. The political ground never wears a barren look like that of fields of farmers who have abandoned farm practices due to menace of wild and stray animals. Notably, no politician talks about farmers who have suffered on economic front due to this consistent problem even as efforts by successive government have failed to curb the problem. Himachal politics lacks will power to tackle the problem of wild animals, including simians, and stray dogs witnessed in every part of the state, political analysts feel. It will be best political performance if the state government makes Himachal free of monkey and stray animals menace by constituting a special task force for the purpose, they add. Meanwhile, main leaders of both the political parties have gone or planning to visit Punjab and Uttarakhand for campaigning as these states go to assembly polls in February. Notably, Himachalis settled in neighbouring states form a sizable chunk of voters to alter the poll prospects, especially in bordering areas of Himachal. Political observers are also looking forward to these elections as Himachal also goes to polls later this year.

Republic Day Celebrations…

The 68th Republic Day was celebrated with gaiety and fervour across the state and functions were organised at state, district, and sub-divisional levels on the occasion. Hoisting of flags, impressive march-past, cultural programmes were highlights of functions. The HTW lens man clicked this picture in Reckong Peo in Kinnaur district.
