Fire Within, Fire Outside For Himachal Congress

Himachal This Week

Assaults by the opposition on a party in power is common but Himachal Congress is facing fire from its own people too. While the BJP has upped its attacks on it as assembly elections approach near, many new critics from the opposition are in the field. Latest addition is the pain of Maheshwar Singh who was virtually a disciple of Chief Minister. But having merged his party with the BJP, now he is vocal and has come out with charges of misgovernance. Latest Supreme Court judgment vindicating the stand of Anurag Thakur and dismissing petition of the government has led to charges of illegal actions by the government. Shanta Kumar who is by and large constructive and refrains from frivolous charges has made a new discovery. He has stated that state government has collected Rs. 3 crore from unemployed who filled applications with fee. No doubt enough material is being collected by parties opposed to the government and there is likely to be a tirade against the CM in future, feel mpolitical observers.

Interesting turn of the whole allegations game is that Congress Chief Minister is miffed with the president of the party. He has rightly objected to new appointments in the party of such faces who are relatively unknown. There is clear case of proper consultation between the party and the CM who has right to know the going on in the party so that he steers the Congress. After all, it is the CM whose face finally counts for vote seeking. If he is kept in the dark, it would jeopardize the party’s interest, feel political observers. But inside fire is also being spread by some ministers also. GS Bali continues to harp on unemployment allowance in spite clear snub by Chief Minister. Whatever might happen, it is certain that such internal issues and troubles will give ammunition to the opposition to beat the government with its own stick.
