Political Analysis

Himachal This Week

HTWMoving around the cities and countryside of Punjab state, one senses the colour of Congress spilling over the crowds and landscape full of fields. The border of Himachal always took keen interest in constituencies around when every Himachali seems to be inquisitive on what is happening in Nangal. Nangal is an industrial city and also  close to water lake of Govind Sagar. Moreover, Anand Sahab being also nearby, it adds to its importance for religious-people. As one entered the city, one encounters miles amd miles of young people on bikes running amuck with K.P.S.Rana posters and banners.

Rana is popular Congress candidate but last time he lost, as some thought, due to delimitation blues. You can also see leaders rushing in and out whispering he deserves congrats for a good campaign. Political observers feel he is likely to win comfortably this time. Some cautious critics are still looking baffled. He has additional advantage that once CM candidate of Captain Amrinder Singh is announced, the strength of Congress unity has gained. While unity in neighbouring state might benefit them, it is not known why dissensions and fights are visible in many areas in Himachal.

Only other day two MLAs Rakesh Kalia and Kuldip Kumar reportedly had a public fight in presence of Chief Minister. It was not only unseemly sight but it showed fissures in the organisation of the party in state, political observers point out. Though CM’s presence did not deter the leaders from virtually coming to roughing up each other, yet entire episode is talk of the state parleys. It does not behove the dignity of leaders and speaks poorly of the party chief who has do some shaking instead of allowing his members to run down the party image and even head of the govrnment, political observers opine.
