Opposing Second Capital or Virbhadra

This is regarding Himachal This Week’s cover story of January 28, 2017, “Opposing Second capital or Virbhadra”. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh announcement to make Dharamshala as second capital of Himachal has stunned the opposition and also his detractors within the Congress party. Both the parties are indulging in blame game since then. It also points towards the political maneuver of Chief Minister to accord priority to Kangra, the biggest and political significant district having 15 assembly seats, in election year. It is also viewed as an effort by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to win over Kangra to accomplish Congress’s ‘Mission Repeat’ in 2017 Himachal elections. The BJP had failed in the 2012 elections to accomplish Mission Repeat as electorate in Kangra district voted for Congress party.

Employees’ Friendly Budget

The Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is seemingly employees’ friendly. Income tax slab has been reduced from ten to five percent for this having income up to five lakh rupees. This decision will benefit middle class families besides curbing tax evasion. People falling in this bracket should also pay their due taxes so that the government generates revenue for developmental schemes.
