Budget Dampens Himachal’s Hopes

This is regarding Himachal This Week’s cover story of February 4, 2017, “Budget Dampens Himachal’s Hopes”. The Union Budget had nothing in specific for this hilly state that has been raising its concern before the Centre  since long. It has become a ritual that leaders of the party ruling in Centre always hail the budget whereas opposition leaders criticise it. Industrialists have also given mixed response to the budget that remained silent on the issues of hill areas. How long will it take for the Centre to expand railway network in Himachal even as there have been promises on this important issue?

‘Disgusting’ Deluxe Bus

The 9:30 PM Shimla-Dharamshala bus is a deluxe bus as claimed by Himachal Road Transport Corporation.”Disgusting” is the term for this bus in words of a fellow foreign passenger! Sit in it and you’ll realise that even a ‘maal gaddi’ would have been more comfortable! An eight plus hours journey and that between two capitals of the state and one finds himself shutting windows and realigning his seat because it’s not just a seat but pendulum. Never settling for a position! Worst experience a tourist economy like Himachal can present to a traveller!
