htwIf intentions are right and efforts are continuous, then people keep associating with you transforming a single person’s journey into a huge caravan. One such caravan got associated with Virender Choudhary who is linked to noble cause of blood donation.About eight months ago, one incident happened with Virender that converted his thought of blood donation into a mission. Virender has donated blood 27 times besides motivating like-minded youth to carry forward his blood donation mission. He has created ‘Kangra Saviours’ group on whatsapp. At present about 200 volunteers are associated with this group. The group includes volunteers from all sections of the society, from doctors to students. Beauty of this group is that majority of its members reside in 20 to 25 kilometres radius of Dr. Rajender Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda. It helps in faster reach of volunteers at hospital whenever the situation demands it. Kangra Saviours donates blood to about five to six needy people daily thus emerging as true saviours and life protectors. Aim of the group is instant availability whenever any person requires blood at Tanda hospital. Its members post a selfie with the donatee in the group after donating blood. There are no personal needs. Kangra Saviours have positive effect on the society too with such groups coming at Dharamshala, Palampur and Nurpur too. The blood donators group at Dharamshala has 80 members associated with it.

Its Origin

Virender Choudhary while talking to Himachal This Week revealed that his friend from Dalhousie called him up and requested for help about eight months ago. A woman had fallen from the roof top and she was shifted to Tanda Medical College in a critical condition and needs blood. Her blood group was rare but somehow we managed the blood group and the life of that woman was saved, added Virender. He thought of a plan of arranging blood for the needy patients visiting Tanda Medical College from different parts of the state. Ultimately this thought translated into the formation of Kangra Saviours, told Virender.

Ajinomoto Overdose Has Adverse Health Effects

Dr Vikram Sharma

htw(The writer hails from Ghumarwin and is a Member of Coffee Board of India ) Monosodium glutamate (MSG) or commonly known as Ajinomoto, a Chinese/ Japanese origin flavour enhancer is commonly added to Chinese food, canned vegetables, soups and processed meats etc. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified MSG as a food ingredient that is generally recognized as safe, but its use remains controversial or according to the dosages used in the process. For this reason, when MSG is added to food, the FDA requires that it should be listed on the label as it contains MSG or its total quantity. Over the years, the FDA has received many reports of adverse reactions to foods containing MSG. These reactions known as MSG symptom complex include headache, flushing, sweating, facial pressure or tightness, numbness, tingling or burning in the face, neck and other areas, fluttering heartbeats or congestion of heart muscles, chest pain, nausea, weakness or fear like feelings. However, researchers have found no definitive evidence of a link between MSG and these symptoms. Researchers acknowledge, though, that a small percentage of people may have short-term reactions to MSG. Symptoms are usually mild and don’t require treatment. The only way to prevent a reaction is to avoid foods containing MSG or Ajinomoto. Other adverse effects have also been linked to regular consumption of MSG including obesity, eye damage, headaches fatigue and disorientation.

It Happens Only In Himachal…

htwWhere all other parts of the country have started feeling the oncoming of summer with fans replacing quilts in plains, situation is totally otherwise in Himachal. The recent downpour and snowfall has made weather quite chilling here. In fact its feeling like December in March month in most of parts here. HTW lens man clicked these pictures after snowfall in Shimla.
