Himachal Wins All India Handball Invitation Cup

Himachali women handball team has once again proved its mettle in All India Invitation Cup. Organised in Hoshiarpur in Punjab, Himachali team overpowered other teams from across India to win the championship. The team defeated Ludhiana by 22-9 in the final match and won the winner’s title. In the semifinal match, Himachali team defeated the hosts Hoshiarpur team by 19-12 to enter the final. For her brilliant performance, Diksha Thakur got best goalkeeper title, while Monika Thakur clinched best player title during the. Nidhi Sharma of Himachal team secured best scorer title.

Mandi Police Wins Volleyball Tourney

Mandi Police team has won Volleyball tourney organised during Mahashivratri festival. The final match of the tourney was played between Mandi Police and Kangra teams. After a total of five sets, Mandi Police team won by 3-2. Earlier, in the semifinal matches, Kangra team defeated Kullu by 3-1, whereas Mandi Police team prevailed over Punjab team. In all eight teams, Kullu, Mandi Police, Una, Katuala, Padhar, Punjab, Gohar and Kangra, participated in the tournament.

Four Himachali For Asian Championship

Four Himachali athletes have been selected for the Asian Masters Athletic Championship to be held in September this year in China. Selected athletes include Sukhram from Arki in Solan district, Bhisham Chauhan from Rohru, Kalpna Parmar from Sirmaur and Chander Dev Thakur from Shimla. These players have been selected for the Asian championship after their brilliant performance in National Masters Athletic Championship held in Hyderabad. In the national championship, Sukhram secured silver medal in 5,000 metres race and Chander Dev bagged fourth position in 3,000 metres race to qualify for the Asian Championship. Sukhram also secured fourth position in 1,500 metres race.
