htw -Dr. Arvind Thakur

Over 50% of Indians suffer from tooth problems. And most of us don’t visit the dentist even once in a year even as people suffer from common tooth problems.  Dental care is equally important as care of other body parts. Here is an expert giving some tips for your dental hygiene.

Tooth Brushing

htwWhy Is It Important?

* Tooth brushing is required to clean teeth surfaces, remove food debris and prevent tooth staining

* Few hours after a meal, a thin layer called plaque is formed on tooth surface which is required to be removed by proper brushing.

* Otherwise from tartar (calculus) and then inflate cavity, germ diseases which is the main cause of tooth/teeth loss.

* Tooth brushing is important to massage gums and to keep tongue clean

How To Brush

* Tooth brush should be kept at a 45 degree toward gum line to brush back and front teeth. Brush should be moved away from gums in a very gentle and precise movement.

* For back side of front teeth, brush should be held vertically to the tooth and move up and down motion.

* To and fro motion of brushing is not good as it cause wearing of tooth surfaces near gums (called abrasion) and improper cleaning of inter-dental space.

Frequency Of Tooth Brushing

* Most of the people use to brush in morning before breakfast, but it is not a good practice.

* We should brush twice a day, first after breakfast and secondly after dinner or before going to the bed.
