Now, Green Tax For A Visit To Rewalsar Lake

htwTourists desirous of paying a visit to pious and historical Rewalsar Lake will now have to shell out money in the form of green tax. National Green Tribunal (NGT) had ordered Rewalsar Nagar Panchayat to impose green tax but it had not implemented the orders until now. However after the death of lakhs of fish in Rewalsar Lake, Nagar Panchayat has decided to implement the orders. Barring locals, the green tax will be charged from all tourists including those from Himachal and other parts of the country. The rate of green tax will be decided in the Nagar Panchayat meeting as per NGT orders. The green tax could vary from Rs. 20 to Rs. 50. The money thus accumulated through green tax will be utilised to save and conserve Rewalsar Lake. It is pertinent to mention here that lakhs of fish die in this lake due to the pollution. The incident grabbed headlines in media of different states and the state government constituted a high level committee to investigate the incident. The committee has taken stock of the situation of the lake and submitted its report to the state government. However, few locals had raised the Rewalsar Lake conservation matter in front of NGT last year. A team comprising of officials from different departments visited the lake on orders of the NGT and submitted its report. The report has suggested to impose green tax on tourists visiting the lake, which the Nagar Panchayat is determined to implement now. It had tried the same earlier also , but could not succeeds at that time.

Tax After House Meeting

The Executive Officer of Mandi Municipal Council Urvashi Walia, who is handling the additional charge of Rewalsar Nagar Panchayat also, told that NGT has ordered to impose green tax on a visit to Rewalsar Lake though the locals are opposing it.   The matter will be discussed in house meeting as per NGT orders in which a final decision related to green tax will be taken.

Six Himachali Products To Be Sold Online

Farmers and orchardists of Himachal Pradesh can now sell six types of products online through National Agriculture Market e-NAM. Himachal Pradesh State Agricultural Marketing Board will provide this facility in 19 sabzi mandis of the state. According to information, 19 sabzi mandis, run by board, have been connected with national agriculture market. Notably, until now Himachali farmers could sell only three types of products, including tomato, peas and apple, through e-NAM. Farmers now could sell garlic, french beans and capsicum online too in national agriculture  market. Farmers and orchardists will receive the payment of the sale directly into their account.
