Political Tremor In BJP Surprises Satpal Satti

Himachal This Week

The Congress seemed to have done a master stroke in pinching a senior BJP leader in Vinod Thakur right under the nose of former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal in Hamirpur. It could be a boost to the sagging morale of party that is facing fist fights in its own cadre and top leaders political observers feel. Vinod Thakur has left the Bharatiya Janata Party apparently due to his differences with senior party leaders.

Such an event should have reached the door of the state party president but Satpal Satti expressed complete surprise while giving complements to his former colleague. He also ruled out any move to bring reconciliation since it was already over. As if it is not enough to hear the stories of million scams in India there is one more reportedly in Himachal which has recently surfaced due to a vigilant party colleague.

Former Congress minister Thakur Ram Lal, a famous wrestler, found some match in party’s Bilaspur MLA Bamber Thakur who is accused by him of causing Rs 300 crore loss to the government by patronising the mining mafia. Ram Lal is a senior leader of the Congress party and a serious charge against a colleague in the same party raised many eyebrows. How could both wash their dirty linen in the party when the party is in power or was Ram Lal attacking his own government which was party to the illegal mining by keeping the eyes closed?

Former minister has raised the hand for a bout as serious charges cut both ways: hitting at  government of his own party and his own party member. The party, however, seems to be totally unconcerned. The BJP is sure to make capital out of this match as already it is tom toming of the corruption in government. And what is more, the party members too are signifying corruption ridden mining activities in the state while the government is mute, political observers add.
