Political Analysis

Himachal This Week

After all the Congress is going for organizational elections after long and the democratic roots seem shaken with conflicts and aspirations. The party that has been ruled by the dynasty has to show its flimsy democratic face through the drive of membership and going for electoral office bearers, political observers feel.

Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president who could not succeed in last assembly elections is presiding over the new dispensation through nominations only. Hopefully there will be elected leaders of the party but the Chief Minister would definite crave to have his nominee as the crucial decisions of ticket allocation and financial assistance will be handled by the party president. As Chief Minister has stronghold in the party and is most popular face of the Congress, his wishes will have to be accommodated in any decision of the party high command.

The Bhartiya Janata Party too is facing faction fights as alluded by its national president Amit Shah. No warning could stop the clash of interests and finally it might damage the party, point out political observers. It is rightly said that when there is no group-ism what is left in the politics. Could it be united one man rule or differing groups with different agenda? Perhaps the BJP has much less fissures than the Congress that might influence the upcoming assembly elections.
