Karam Singh ThakurCrime has witnessed an inclining trend in Himachal Pradesh in last few years. Seizure of a number of cars from car thieves in Mandi, arms and other ammunition at Nahan and Kala Amb and arrest of an ISIS terrorist from Kullu are few such incidents that terrify peaceful environs of the hill state. The increasing crime will have its negative impact on tourism, educational hub dream and investment in industrial sector. Besides this, financial condition of the state too cannot be termed as sound right now. Drugs business, loot and cheating has taken over the tourism sector. Social disparities are also a leading factor in promoting crime and corruption in the state.

Economic disparities begin from panchayati raj institutions in the state. Many well off families have been inducted in the schemes that were meant for poor people because of nepotism in panchyati raj institutions also. There will be no improvement in the society until selection in the government machinery is done transparently on merit. This is the reason why corruption and crime are shaming Himachal every now and then. According to recent statistics, Himachal Pradesh has achieved 100% aadhar card enrollment. Why not link aadhar card with every panchayat of the state, be it selection of a BPL family or selection in some other schemes? The same system should be implemented to persons linked with health sector, educational institutes, employment exchanges and tourism business. Aadhar card link scheme will benefit poor, helpless and needy person.

However, it would be necessary to know how Aadhar card link yojana will benefit poor? For instance if an unworthy person has been selected the in BPL list or in a scheme of benefit for poor or one is selected repeatedly for different schemes of profit, then all of his details could be accessed with a single click from panchayat. It will aid transparency, curb corruption and unmask the corrupt. Liquor plays important role in crime and corruption. Whole details of liquor consumer could be registered if liquor is sold to consumer through aadhar card after making liquor vends completely cashless. It will help in curbing liquor adulteration, tax evasion and will also unmask such people who spend huge amount on alcohol but at the same time are enjoying benefits of schemes meant for poor and underprivileged. In this way needy and poor people could get the maximum benefit of government schemes meant for poor thereby improving their financial condition. Crime and corruption will also automatically come down if the financial condition of society is healthy. The government will have to take this strong step so that benefit of government policies reach to the targeted sections of the society.
