Tourism Norms

Tourism has suffered a big jolt due to protests followed by imposition of Section 144 in Manali and the tourists will have a lot to complain. There was a threat to tourism season when the administration initiated action against taxi operators following complaints. There is a need to understand tourism following directions by National Green Tribunal and all will have to follow the norms. All sections will have to show morality after Rohtang emerged as the central point in the unnecessary tension during tourism season. Tourism is not merely driving taxis and no one has the right to fleece tourists. The government should also provide powers to the administration for discharging their duties. Protest by taxi operators is in no way justified as such behaviour as entire tourism infrastructure will have to pay a heavy price for it. We should not forget that tourism in Himachal is expanding and flourishing due to disturbed conditions prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir. Tourist will have other options if tourism season in this hilly state witnesses imposition of section 144 and chakka jams. We should understand tourism expansion under new ambit that also incorporates directions of National Green Tribunal. There is urgent need to ponder over the issue that expanding tourism doesn’t affect environment adversely. There is need to expand administrative monitoring and Himachal should appoint administrative officers under a separate cadre to implement legal aspect while protecting the tourists. We have to identify real tourists as religious tourists now want to visit Rohtang also. Tourists traveling by ordinary buses are now visiting Himachal after acquiring old vehicles. Pollution Control Board also has to play a proactive role in checking pollution spread by these old vehicles at tourist destinations.  It will definitely hurt Brand Himachal if beggars from other states make their presence felt in McLeodgunj. We have to expand tourism in rural areas of the state as its tourist destinations are now over crowded. Green tax should be levied at every tourist place but it should be used for ensuring environment friendly transport system. How can we realise rope ways when there is a question over the success of electric buses in Rohtang area? Taxi operators are self employed  but they should not be allowed to become a mafia.
