Himachal Faces Electricity Loss

Himachal is facing loss in hydropower generation as projects are producing up to their potential. Presently, they are running at 90% capacity which is accruing losses to the state government. The state should get 16 million units of electricity on daily basis as its share from various hydropower projects running in the state, which is not the case here. It is getting only 13 million units on daily basis. This reduction in three million units daily translates into financial loss worth several crores.
The state last year had made good profit in this sector. But the present situation indicates that government will have to face loss in hydropower generation sector this year. The state has started selling its share of 13 million units received on daily basis from different power projects. As per an agreement with Punjab and Delhi, the state government is selling eight lakh units to Punjab while two million units is being sold to Delhi on daily basis. Rest three million units is being transferred to North Grid on exchange basis. Besides this, the state government is not getting good rates for electricity as compared to previous years. The maximum rate that government is getting is Rs. 3 per unit at present while the rate for same unit in case of exchange is about Rs. 2.50 to Rs. 3 per unit. It is believed that due to falling temperatures in upper reaches, the glaciers are not melting at required rate. As a result, water level is not rising thus affecting electricity generation.
Grundfos India Launches Solar Pump For Domestic Use
Chandigarh: Grundfos Pumps India Private Limited, a leading manufacturer of energy efficient pumps, has launched ‘Smart Solarz’, a solar pump for domestic use. This solar-powered self-priming pump was conceptualized, designed and manufactured in India. Smart Solarz is a product designed to cater to the specific needs of the Indian consumers. “It is lightweight, easy to install and the wet parts of the pump are made of food grade engineered polymers to ensure that it is corrosion free”, said Ranganath N K, Managing Director, Grundfos India.
The Smart Solarz also has intelligent features like protection against dry run and level controls. The pump, which has a 150W/24V BLDC motor, was best suited for houses and buildings, which have a ground floor and maximum of two additional floors, especially in areas where the power supply was poor or not available. It was also ideal for farmhouses, beach houses, rural and semi urban areas and could be used for water pumping from sump to overhead tank and other purposes. Ranganath said that the solar pump is easy to install, lightweight and has low-maintenance features. All this along with the fact that it runs on solar power, makes it an ideal choice for many uses and customers, he added.
Volkswagen Launches Tiguan SUV In Mandi

Volkswagen costly and luxurious SUV Tiguan has been launched in Himachal Pradesh too. Europe’s most popular SUV Tiguan is now available for purchase in hill state at Volkswagen’s only authorised dealership in Himachal Pradesh at Mandi. The new car was launched by Anil Kakkar, Director, Volkswagen, Mandi at the Volkswagen showroom in Mandi. Sales Manager Vivek Saini during the launching ceremony of the car said that new SUV by Volkswagen has direct competition with SUV segment of BMW, Audi and Mercedes. Vivek revealed that the SUV derives power from a 2.0-litre TDI diesel motor producing 143 PS of power and 340 Nm of peak torque. The high powered SUV is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (DSG). It is available in two variants – Comfortline and Highline – and is priced at Rs 28.35 lakh and Rs 31.80 lakh, respectively.
The Tiguan is loaded to the gills with some of the standard features being auto LED headlamps, three-zone climate control, electronically adjustable and heated front seats, and six airbags. Other features include multi-collision brakes, automatic rain sensing wiper, EBS, ABS and ASR, tyre pressure monitoring system and other modern features.
