Tenzin Paldon Is ‘Miss Tibet 2017’

Himachal This WeekTenzin Paldon (21) from Kollegal, Karnataka was crowned ‘Miss Tibet 2017’ in a ceremony held at Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), McLeodganj. Paldon has a degree in aviation management, and is currently working as a cabin crew at Spice Jet Airlines. A total of nine contestants from India, United States and Europe took part in the 15th edition of the beauty contest.

After seven rounds over three days, the judges decided Tenzin Khechoe (22) from Bengaluru as the Ist Runner-up, while Tenzin Nordron (20) from Chauntra in Mandi district of Himachal was adjudged the 2nd Runner-up. The winner got a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh while the first and 2nd runners-up were given Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. Netizens also favoured Tenzin Paldon for the Miss Photogenic title, with 5,161 (36%) out of a total 14,285 votes. The winner and the 1st runner-up also won a two-week trip to Vietnam, sponsored by Claire Huynh Hong Hai.

Paldon said that a pageant like Miss Tibet gives young women a platform to help them become independent and strong. She hopes to inspire and influence the younger Tibetan generation to be determined, honest, and dedicated. Miss Tibet Pageant was introduced in 2002 by Lobsang Wangyal Production. The three-day event had seven rounds, included swim suit, talent and talk and traditional costume. In a surprise move, Director Lobsang Wangyal announced that this year’s Pageant was his last, saying he has organised it for 15 years.

Summer Festival Enthralls Queen Of Hills

Himachal This WeekThe international Summer Festival, Shimla brought out colours of diverse Indian culture to entertain audience at The Ridge as the mesmerising and scintillating music charmed the Queen of Hills. This festival is quite popular among locals as well as tourists. Because of the peak tourist season, the Summer Festival was a hit among tourists this year too. Hindi, Punjabi and pahari music was presented by various famous artists of the country in this five daylong event. For the first time, a foreign artists’ group from Republic of Congo was also included in the festival which added charm to the event.

Singers Madhuri Pandey, Rajeev Thapa and other pahari singers strewed the magic of their voices. Thakur Das Rathi, Geeta Bhardwaj, Lokender Chauhan, Muskan Thakur and Dilip Simauri were also in the list who mesmerised the audience with their captivated music. A fashion show, painting competition and other programmes were also part of the Summer Festival. Folk dance festival at Gaiety Theatre, food festival at Ashiana Restaurant, baby show and dog show at The Ridge were applauded by visitors. Kuchipudi dance item was also highlight of this biggest event. On the last evening of the programme, Sultana sisters created a hypnotic atmosphere, where music lovers were spellbound.

Indian Cultural Bonanza

Himachal This WeekHimachal This WeekAll India Artists Association organised 62nd National Drama and Dance Competition at Kalibari Hall, Shimla, in which artists from all over the country participated. Artists from Kerala, Patna, Mumbai, Delhi and other states displayed different colours of various cultures in this competition with great enthusiasm. This drama and dance competition included group dance, solo dance, one act plays and short plays. All artists presented folk culture of different states of India. Kathak, Bhratnatyam, Kuchipudi, Odissi and some other dance forms were presented during the past few days. Artists from 16 states of the country participated in this competition.
