Union Ministers Flock To Himachal

Both the state and Union Government are underlining their objectives ahead of general assembly elections due in this hilly state later this year. As a result, Himachal is likely to benefit due to developmental schemes underlined by both the government reportedly to woo electorate in their favour. With Himachal witnessing increased political activities, the distance between Union ministers to this state is also diminishing. Ostensibly, the Centre can extend huge assistance to Himachal as evident from the Petroleum Terminal project that can also have far reaching ramifications on state politics as well. Though work on this project is going on for quite sometime now, but its foundation stone laying ceremony is not an ordinary function.  It will help in reducing prices of petroleum products besides generating employment opportunities in this state. One hopes that more ministers of Modi’s Cabinet will initiate developmental projects here as this hilly state needs help from all Union ministries barring a few.

First in this list is Nitin Gadkari but Himachalis want that Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu should also visit Himachal to understand the basis of Himachali lifestyle without railway lines. The Union minister visiting Himachal must have understood problems of hilly areas and visit of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh would be considered fruitful if recruitment to para military forces is conducted in Himachal. However, electorate need to understand as to what has changed suddenly that big promises are made for Himachal ahead of general assembly elections.

Thirty thousand families are still facing the brunt of displacement due to Pong Dam project even as people can feel happy that three ministers of Rajasthan have assured Chief Minister on the issue. On the other hand, state government is also unleashing numerous schemes and announcements notwithstanding the fact that Central ministers are visiting Himachal more frequently now.
