Book Fair Remains Popular In Digital Age

NEWSThese days, we usually buy books online. But the recently organised book fair in Shimla at Gaiety Theatre proved that not only online shopping, books remain favourite of all, whatever the place we get them from. The fair has lots of collection for book lovers and until now, it has recorded a huge sale. Enthusiasts of books found a big opportunity to buy their favourite books. Domestic and international tourists too evinced keen interest in this event. Various publication houses from Pune, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Panchkula and Shimla participated in the fair with books for all age groups in English, Urdu, Sanskrit, Hindi and regional language. This is for the first time that some publishers came to the event directly to exhibit their books.

Locals took the benefit of the book fair. A Shimla resident Vikas Kumar told that he likes to read different books and this fair gave him a great opportunity to buy his favourite books in his hometown. The fair covered various subjects viz literature, language, science, technology, ayurveda, art, music, cinema, politics, diplomacy, sports, engineering, history, geography, religions, spiritualism, biographies, folk-culture, yoga, catering, sociology, economics, commerce, hobbies, philosophy, psychology, education, environment & ecology, wildlife, travelogues, tourism, children literature and others.

Books For Students

There are various books available for students including books from different education boards, inspirational books, autobiographies of renowned people and other study material. Students also purchased CDs and DVDs to study at home.

Spiritual, History Books

There are lots of spiritual and history books available in the fair providing an opportunity for locals to buy spiritual books of their choice. There are four Vedas and people have to buy those four to read them. But in this book fair, many people visited to buy Shabad Veda, a book having all four Vedas in it. Apart from it Discovery of India, Bhagvad Geeta, Ramayana and other spiritual books are available. Books written by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam were also in heavy demand.

Himachali Film ‘Stuck-ed’ Enters Caribbean Film Festival

NEWSPiyush Kanga, a Himachali director, who started his film career through a short film ‘Dost’, came out with another short film ‘Stuck-ed’. This movie got a direct entry in the semifinal of the  Caribbean Film Festival and Market, Bahamas. The result of this event would be declared in December later this year. If, his movie gets any award in this film festival, then this would be the first ever Himachali film to get an award in Caribbean Film Festival and Market, Bahamas. Piyush Kanga is a young director who hails from Bilaspur. This film was created under Silent Hymns banner and is also produced by Piyush himself.

Saurabh Agnihotri, a Himachali actor, who was seen in some Bollywood films too, has played the lead role in the film. For his achievement in Bollywood, Divya Himachal had also awarded him with Himachal Excellence Award 2016. Swati Agnihotri, Saransh and Shreya Sharma are also other characters. The film was uploaded on YouTube also, where it got a huge response from the audience. It is a family drama, which gives a message of harmony and peace. His film ‘Dost-A Story of Two Friends’ would also be uploaded on YouTube shortly. His another short film ‘The Promise-An Address of Never Ending Love’ is also ready to go on air. Piyush Kanga was also an assistant director in for the movie, ‘Sachin-The Ultimate Winner’.

Mrs. Himachal Dr. Pooja Participates In Femina Miss India

Displaying Rich Kinnauri Culture

NEWSDiverse culture of Himachal make this land a popular one among people across the world. The land holding a place as The Land of Gods, has various deities to worship for. Similarly, every district of Himachal has its own and different culture. From food to rituals, everything varies from district to district here. Kinnauri culture in Himachal is having a very important place due to its richness. Kinnauri attires, food, dance and songs are very different from other parts of the state. This time, people of Shimla got a chance to experience the rich culture of Kinnaur at Gaiety Theatre and The Ridge, Shimla. Dance, food and various other items were displayed in this festival named as ‘Memerising Kinnaur: The Land of Mysticism’ organised to demonstrate the Kinnauri culture. Self help groups have sold out their hand-made items during the festival. Kinnauri cuisines were also liked by people. Folk dance of Kinnaur was presented through ‘hiran’ dance and ‘chham’ dance forms. The festival gave a clear look of Kinnaur, which was appreciated by tourists too.
