Gaddi Community Politics

Himachal Chief Minister’s statement has a deep meaning in politics that has given a chance to Gaddi community leaders of the BJP to unite. But is it possible. Statements by leaders of second line in hierarchy indicate that they don’t have a complete faith in senior leaders. Search for new faces will begin as Gaddi leaders in the Congress and BJP are facing challenges in their own parties. The BJP got a political issue against Chief Minister  whose statement in Una hurt Gaddi community. Its leaders have got representation in every government but the community has opposed former minister Kishan Kapoor in Dharamshala and former speaker Tulsi Ram in Bharmour and now Thakur Singh Bahrmouri faces the similar situation. The community did not support some of the MLAs also as evident from the political hibernation of emerging leaders like Dulo Ram.  We have to understand increasing political awareness and unity of Gaddi community in the context of youth potential. Some potential capable Gaddi youth can definitely change political scenario in the run up to next assembly elections. Social media is agog about such discussions.  Bharmour is at the centre stage of battlefield where Gaddi community wants to change its leadership. If the community is viewing a successful neurosurgeon Dr. Janak as its young face, then BJP high command has also underlined its changing permutations by appointing Trilok Kapoor as national senior vice president of party’s scheduled tribe cell. Entry of Trilok Kapor as a big leader reflects BJP’s new approach.  Gaddis are no longer nomadic shepherds but are educated now and hold a considerable influence in hotel, tourism and travel sectors. The community got pride and self confidence due to social security and reservation rights provided to it during past decades. The community has also made rapid strides in educational sector. Political parties have been distributing tickets due on caste and community considerations. It is possible that Gaddi community finds certain faces due to political implications of Chief Minister’s statement that can prove them successful in state’s changing scenario.
