htwThe much awaited talent hunt and one of its kind dance event of the state has begun with the grand audition session in Kullu. Many contestants from the district came to try their luck in the auditions. Wonderful response of participants could be seen as they exhibited dancing in different forms. Whether it was Folk, Punjabi, Pahari, Western, Rajasthani, Haryanavi or any other type of dance, participants performed well and left the audience and judges spellbound. It seemed like youngsters are crazy to become dancers. Long queues of participants described the enthusiasm and eagerness of aspirants to participate in the dance event. Renowned dancer of Himachal, Naveen Paul judged performances of contestants. The participants of DHD praised Divya Himachal for organising wonderful talent hunts in Himachal. Solo dance and group dance performances are invited for the auditions.

DIFF 2017 Announces Fourth Edition

htwAfter three successful editions, Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF) has announced the 2017 edition of its Film Fellows Programme. DIFF Film Fellows is an initiative to nurture, inspire and encourage young filmmakers from the Indian Himalayan regions. The festival directors are Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam. At DIFF 2016, a jury of eminent film personalities chose five fellows out of thirty applicants through a rigorous selection process. The winners were Tourangbam Andy from Imphal, Vishal Langthasa from Haflong Assam, Bendang Walling from Nagaland, Abhijeet Phartiyal from Uttarakhand and Mehak Jamal from Srinagar. Established filmmakers like Anupama Srinivasan and Umesh Kulkarni mentored them during their time at DIFF. As part of the programme for 2017, five filmmakers will again be selected to attend DIFF 2017 and participate in its various events, including screenings of the best contemporary independent cinema, master classes and workshops held by visiting filmmakers and industry professionals. The selected participants will also get the opportunity to engage in special one-on-one mentorship sessions with visiting filmmakers. DIFF Film Fellows Programme is open to anyone from the regions including Jammu & Kashmir Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and hill regions of West Bengal and Assam. The deadline for applying to the programme is 31 August 2017. The results will be announced mid-September 2017. Mehak Jamal, DIFF Film Fellow 2016 said, “Take five people from the mountains and put them in their natural habitat, and things are bound to get interesting. If you love a day at the movies, then there is no better place than DIFF for you. “

Himachal’s Sugandha Becomes Javed Akhtar’s Stylist

htwSugandha Sood, the Himachali stylist in Bollywood has added another feather in her cap. She is now being seen as a stylist for the Bollywood’s renowned lyricist, Javed Akhtar. Sugandha, who was earlier stylist of celebrities like Kishwar Merchant, Prince Narula, Yuvika Chaudhary, Aditi Bhatia, Ranvijay, Sara Khan, Neha Kakkar, Tony Kakkar and many others from the TV serial fraternity, went a step ahead with a new video song of Javed Akhtar. His new video album ‘Payal’ is being shot these days, in which Sugandha is the stylist. Suchismita has given her melodious voice to this upcoming album being shot under Times banner. Sood has also been honoured with Himachal This Week Excellence Award in 2016.
