Himachal This Week, Kullu

htwA tiny village Mouhol in the lap of beautiful mountains in Kullu valley in Himachal Pradesh bustled with activities when villagers came to know that a local girl is a part of all women team for Navika Sagar Parikrama. Lt Commander Pratibha Jamwal will be part of six members Indian Navy team that will kick off their voyage to circumnavigate the globe in the first week of September. Apart from being officers with the Indian Navy what brings together these dynamic women of different parts of India is their passion to show women power in the male dominating society. Pratibha joined the Indian Navy in 2011 and presently is an officer with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) of the Indian Navy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already met the team. He exhorted them to project India’s capabilities and strengths across the world and after successful completion of voyage, he told them to write and share their experiences. This is the first-ever Indian circumnavigation of the globe by an all-women crew. They will begin their voyage later this month from Goa, and expect to return to Goa in March 2018, after completing the circumnavigation. The expedition has been titled Navika Sagar Parikrama. The Parikrama will be covered in five legs, with stop-overs at 4 ports: Fremantle (Australia), Lyttleton (New Zealand), Port Stanley (Falklands), and Cape Town (South Africa). The vessel will be skippered by Lt. Commander Vartika Joshi, and the crew comprises Lt. Commanders Pratibha Jamwal, P Swathi, and Lieutenants S Vijaya Devi, B Aishwarya and Payal Gupta.

History In Making

On their return in March next month, a history will be created for the first time in India and Pratibha will be a part of that history all the years to come. Her feat will encourage other girls of the state to follow suit.
