Railway Officer Turns Film Director

htwA railway officer has made his way to making films by just watching shooting of some Bollywood movies. While working in Railways Department, Solan Railway Station Master, Dinesh Sharma has become a director by taking inspiration from the shooting of the films like ‘Jab we met’, ‘All is well’ and ‘Shimla Mirch’. He made a short film on ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, which has been selected for Pune International Film Festival, to be held from August 25 to August 27, 2017. His wife produced this film. He has also created two other films including ‘Respect your elders’ and ‘Begging’. He makes films to spread some social message among masses. His film ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ has got over thirty thousand views on Youtube.

Plot

Story of the film revolves around a family where they have two girls. Grandmother of the girls keep abusing their mother for not having a baby boy. Then the lady gives birth to another girl and a well settled family adopted that girl as she was unwanted in that house. That adopted girl later becomes a doctor and treats her sick grandmother in her hospital. The message to the masses is that a girl can do anything if she is trusted and given enough opportunities to grow like boys.

6th Khushwant Singh Lit-Fest From Oct 6

htwThe sixth Khushwant Singh Literature Festival on the theme ‘India at 70’ will be held in Kasauli from October 6 to October 8. Various eminent personalities from different fields including literature, films, politics will become a part of this event. Bollywood celebrities like Asha Parekh, Shatrughan Sinha and Rahul Bose are expected to make it to the fest this year. This festival is very popular lit fest in India which was started by Rahul Singh, son of Khushwant Singh in 2012. Since then, this fest has become an annual feature where renowned personalities from India and abroad converge every year. Since Khushwant Singh spent a long time of his life at Raj Villa, a bungalow located on the Upper Mall in Kasauli, this fest is held every year to commemorate his life and its achievements.

htwHimachali folk songs are getting revived through younger generation, as they are coming forward to make it more popular. Once again, due to efforts of some youth groups, some of oldest folk songs of Himachal are on the lips of everyone these days. Laman Band, which started this journey is now going ahead with the aspiring Himachali singers who are giving more impetus to pahari songs. In this series, a girl from Chamba has stirred the audience on social media with a chambyali song ‘raghu garda ho’. Usha, a class 10th student of Government School, Lyhl in Chamba district sung this song with melodious tunes of flute played by Sonu, a student of 12th class of the same school. Without many instruments, it came as a beautiful surprise for everyone as they liked the ordinary yet enchanting musical fusion of two youngsters. The video has gone viral on various social media platforms.
