Shuttler Saurabh Is State Badminton Champion

Himachal This WeekShuttler Saurabh Kapoor from Kangra emerged winner in the state badminton championship. Saurabh has won state championship not only for the first time but he has retained the top position during past two years. Saurabh has also been selected for the senior nationals and north zone badminton championships. He would represent the men’s team in Senior National Badminton Championship to be held in Nagpur. Ajay Kaith and Saurabh Pandher would also be there in the men’s team. Meanwhile, Kirti Chaturvedi would lead women’s team consisting of Divya, Arzoo and Nirmla. In the mixed double, Yogesh and Arzoo will represent Himachal. In the north zone badminton championship to be held in Chandigarh, Saurabh Kapoor will lead the team.

Four Himachalis Shine In Asian Yoga Championship

Himachal This WeekFour Himachali Yoga practitioners have brought laurels to the country and state by winning four medals in Asian Yoga Championship. Held in Singapore, as many as 42 Yoga practitioners from India, including four Himachalis, participated in this Yoga championship. All these four practitioners performed well in their respective categories. Last year’s Asian Yoga champion, Kuldeep once again proved his metal and clinched gold medal. Abhishek and Priti Rana secured silver medals while Akshay bagged the bronze medal.

Seven SAI, Dharamshala Players For Asian Kabaddi

Seven women kabaddi players of SAI hostel, Dharamshala have been selected in Indian team in sub-junior, junior and senior categories. Those selected for Asian Kabaddi Championship include Dimple and Alisha in sub-junior, Pushpa and Gopi in junior and Lalita, Kavita and Jyoti in senior category. They will attend the national coaching camp before participation in Asian Championship. Players of SAI, Dharamshala have proved their mettle earlier also and brought laurels to the hostel. In 2005, Ranjita was part of the Indian team from SAI Dharamshala and the team clinched gold in Asian championship. Pooja Thakur also proved her mettle in Asian Kabaddi Championship in 2008, SAF Games in 2010 and Asian Games in 2014. Apart from these, Kavita Thakur also made us proud as she played major role in Indian for Asian Indoor Games Korea in 2013, Asian Games 2014 and South-Asian Games in 2015-16.

Solan’s Rajeev Wins Silver In Shooting

Himachal This WeekSolan’s specially-abled shooter, Rajeev showed his brilliance and bagged the silver medal in the Surender Singh Memorial Shooting event held in Delhi. This is not for the first time that Rajeev showed his brilliant sport as he had won gold medal in the Pathfinder Open Shooting Championship in Gurgaon also. He also bagged silver medal in pre-national shooting event.

Karate Players Bring Laurels

Himachal This WeekThree Himachalis have excelled in International Shotokai (karate) championship held in Amritsar. They are associated with United Martial Arts Association, Maharal in Hamirpur district. Sunny Kumar clinched silver medal in 57 kg category of kumite event in junior section. Meanwhile, in the senior category, 60 kg kata event, Hans Raj secured bronze medal. As many as 1, 300 karate players of seven countries including America, Iran, Iraq, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Australia and India participated in this championship.
