 19th Maruti Suzuki Raid De Himalaya (1)The 19th edition of the popular Raid de Himalaya car rally would be flagged off on October 7, which will pass through tough terrains of the tribal belt of Himachal and Ladakh in Jammu Kashmir. The caravan of raid will travel through some of the most inhabitable places in Himalayas like Kaza, Sarchu, Kargil, Leh and Pensi La covering a distance of approximately 2000 kms. This will be the ultimate test of not only human and machine endurance but a more symbiotic relation between a driver and his machine. Rally will be flagged off on October 7 from Manali and will conclude on October 14 in Leh. The Team Maruti Suzuki motorsports comprising of rally titans like Suresh Rana, Sandeep Sharma and Samrat Yadav are all set to take on the Raid this year too. This Team will participate in Gypsy, Vitara Brezza, S-Cross, Ignis and Grand Vitara in the most treacherous roads and extreme weather conditions of Himalayas. Himachal Pradesh government would provide logistical support to the Raid de Himalaya. Ten times Raid winner, Manali man Suresh Rana said,” I am extremely excited to be part of the team Maruti Suzuki Motorsport. Raid is all about the synchronicity between a driver and his vehicle. One has to know their vehicle in an out to brave any unexpected twist and turn in the route. At the end it is not only about physical endurance, but mental endurance as well. Most importantly, one must put all the efforts in vehicular safety, including all the safety harness and gears.” They will cross over from Himachal into Ladakh, negotiating the world’s highest mountain passes including ShingoLa, BaralachLa, TaglangLa, WariLa and KhardungLa, to name the most prominent ones. Once the Raid reaches Leh on Day four, it branches off to Kargil and the rugged Zanskar Valley for another two gruelling days and concluding upon its return to the Ladakh capital on October 13.

Baldev Singh Proves Mettle In Kabaddi

Baldev SinghAfter Ajay Thakur from Dabhota, who proved his mettle in national and international kabaddi tournaments, Baldev Singh from the same village has also made Himachal proud. Baldev Singh was a part of the Indian team which won International Invitational Men’s Kabaddi Championship held at the National Sports Council hall in Nepal. Baldev scored 11 tackle points in the championship. Final match was played between India and Nepal in which India thrashed Nepal by 59-21. India seemed to dictate proceedings right from the first minute and went into the second half with a 37-11 lead that all but sealed the match in their favour in the end. In the second half, Nepal could not find their footing which meant India ran away with the match. Bangladesh had also participated in the controversial competition organised by All Nepal Kabaddi Association. After winning the championship, Baldev got a warm welcome in his hometown. He was congratulated by everyone from the kabaddi fraternity.
