Himachal This Week

newsHimachal is known for its two party system when most of the time in the past few years parties had been doing acrobatics. The fight traditionally has centered round two personalities Virbhadra Singh and Prem Kumar Dhumal. Entry of third party has faced a number of obstacles. Sukharam founded a party that finally merged in the Congress and similarly Rajan Sushant, firebrand legislator of the BJP in a fit of emotional outburst left the party to join AAP which was making waves in Delhi and neighbouring Punjab. After failure of AAP in Punjab and Goa, Rajan did see stock of new outfit vanishing and promptly has started making overtures reportedly for Ghar Wapsi which would depend finally on his bargaining for strength. Prevailing situation of both the parties for some time in the past is utter confusion. But as soon as we are approaching the assembly election announcement, the topsy-turvey situation is going berserk. The Congress is reportedly split between Virbhadra Singh group and followers of HPCC president Sukhvinder Singh known as Sukhu. The centre refuses to resolve the matter and both are openly berating each other. No doubt leadership in the state is in quandry as even in HTW survey 56% voters feel corruption cases against Virbhadra Singh are definitely crucial issues. The Congress high command sends a senior leader aqnd state party affairs in charge S.K. Shinde to resolve the issue and to guide the campaign. He instead of taking a lead to resolve issues creates further wedge in the situation by promoting both factions and unable to do any good to the party, political observers feel. The BJP too is in doldrums as there is army of aspirants and any decision is likely to cause rift in the party. The BJP has many splinters besides Shanta Kumar and P.K. Dhumal, political observers point out. Frustrated will turn independents to find a way out and contest if they do not get the tickets, they add. Many seasoned politicians are talking cheek by jowl that this time everything is going ulta-pulta.
