Finally it is official now. Himachal Transport Minister GS Bali is not joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in the midst of speculations that he might switch loyalty on the eve of general assembly elections due later this year in Himachal. He minced no words in clarifying that that he is a senior Congress leader. “Neither I believe in politics of future nor do I practice it,” added Transport Minister. Notably, there have been speculations that a senior Congress leader from Kangra district might leave the party and join the BJP on the eve of assembly polls. However, Bali’s statement has put to rest all such speculations.

Bali further pointed out that he became a minister in the government from Congress party and was working in that capacity. He also dismissed reports of differences between the party’s government and organisation by saying both are working with a perfect coordination. However when asked about the leadership issue in Himachal, Bali categorically said it was a matter that has to be decided by AIIC president Sonia Gandhi, vice president Rahul Gandhi, Himachal Congress affairs in charge Sushil Kumar Shinde, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Sukhvinder Sukhu.

Meanwhile, different opinions have surfaced over state Youth Congress president Vikramaditya Singh’s statement regarding ‘one family, one ticket’ for contesting assembly elections. Health Minister Kaul Singh questioned the rationale behind issuing such a statement. “Vikramaditya should have discussed the matter with Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh before issuing such a statement,” he said, while obliquely asking whether only one, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh or Vikramaditya, would contest assembly election.

Meanwhile, it is learnt ground is being prepared for Vikramaditya Singh to contest assembly election from Shimla, Rural assembly segment, if posters appearing in the area are any indication. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, currently representing Shimla, Rural assembly segment, is likely to contest from Arki assembly segment. The party’s organisation will not have any objection to such a proposal as Chief Minister can contest from anywhere. Moreover political observers feel that Vikramaditya Singh is also active in Shimla, Rural assembly segment since long time. Notably, Chief Minister visits this constituency for inaugurations and foundation stone laying ceremonies whereas Vikramaditya Singh has been  consistently participating in other programmes in the constituency, political observers add.
