Will Public Reform Everything?

The government finds itself in a piquant situation when public outcry is witnessed. No lessons are learnt even as accusations against health department keep in swelling. There is a need for improvement  in Rubella implementation programme even as the department can boast of its figures and awareness campaign. Another aspect was witnessed in Una hospital where a girl lost her life in the midst of a Rubella programme held on its premises. It is not a matter of only one hospital but reflects the prevailing disregard in every office that surfaces in the form of public outcry. The departmental achievements are not visible in front of soaring aspirations of people.  It is a culture to show presence in front of politicians if a minister’s programme converts entire programme into a welcome circus. The government sector becomes deaf while welcoming political leaders as hospital staff turned a blind eye towards sufferings of the girl in Una hospital. It happens in all departments as we accept inquiries after every bus accident. We can’t justify public outcry but must understand the reason behind people’s anger. We saw it in Kotkhai rape and murder case. It is not right to delay or take decisions according to people’s anger after every incident. Political nature to visualise masses in groups has changed society’s character that is witnessed in every election. There has been no effort to run government sector with people’s participation. Only political favours have been doled out to allure masses by distributing schools, colleges and hospitals in plenty. Financial position of local bodies looks weak as people were not encouraged to pay taxes. No body knew as to who was responsible for Una hospital’s management when a girl died in midst of announcements made on its premises.
