Little Success In Solving Theft, Burglary Cases

The state police achieved about 40% success in solving theft cases and 30% in burglary cases

htwHimachal Police are failing in cracking most of theft and burglary cases reported in different parts of the state. About 60% theft cases reported in Himachal are still unsolved while this rate is even higher in burglary cases. The state police is clueless in about 70% burglary cases. Failure of Himachal Police can be gauged from the fact that police could succeed to solve only 42% theft cases. According to sources, Himachal police successfully solved 42% theft cases in 2013, 41.5% in 2014 and 42% theft cases in 2015. In 2016, a total of 314 theft cases were registered in different police stations of the state. Out of it about only 42.48% of cases could be solved.   Similar was the situation in case of burglary incidents. The state police is clueless in about two-third of burglary cases. According to information, only 19.46% burglary cases could be solved in 2013. However situation improved thereafter marginally in this perspective with Himachal police achieving success in solving 23.43% burglary cases in 2014 and 30% burglary cases in 2015. In 2016, a total of 343 burglary cases were registered in different police stations of the state. But ironically police achieved success in solving only 29.50% cases. According to police officers common public can help in reducing theft and burglary cases by remaining alert all the time. They say that theft cases can reduce to a great extent if people keep cash and jewellery in bank lockers safety instead of keeping it at home. Whereas in shops and other business institutes, people can help police in solving theft and burglary cases by installing CCTV camera in their premises.
