htwThe 13th edition of Hero MTB Himalaya will be conducted from September 28 to October 7, 2017. More than 70 riders have confirmed their participation for Asia’s biggest MTB extravaganza this year. The race is all set to commence from Shimla and riders will be covering a total distance of around 650km across eight stages with an elevation gain of a whopping 16500 m. The race touted to be one of the toughest across the globe is being organised by Himalayan Adventure Sports and Tourism Promotion Association (HASTPA) and Hero Cycles. The route for this season majorly remains the same from the last year, starting from Shimla to Little Lhasa, Dharamshala. However, a lot of new off-road sections will be added to give riders an unforgettable experience. This will be one of the toughest editions of the race and will be most fiercely competitive with a strong line up of riders from across the world. The route is often considered as one of the most challenging for an MTB stage race in the world. Like always, the riders will comprise of professional riders from across the world and some of the finest talent in India. Hero action team, India’s first fully professional MTB team will also be participating in huge numbers and will aim to bring the title of ‘Best Indian Rider’ home.  The armed forces will be represented once again with teams from various departments of the defence forces. The riders will be competing in five categories including men (18-39), women, team of two, masters (39-49) and Grandmasters (49+). Major towns near the race route will be Shimla-Gadagufar-Narkanda-Luri-Swad- Jalhori-Jyot-Gadagushaini-Jhanjeli-Mandi- Barot and finish at Dharamshala. Touted as one of the toughest mountain biking adventure races in the world, the Hero MTB Himalaya successfully concluded its 12th edition on October 3, 2016 with Andi Seewald taking away the crown of ‘King of the Himalayas’ as the winner in the Overall Category. The race not only tests the mettle of each rider but also demands a strong power of will and mental presence of them.

Indian Women Finish Second At Cadet World Championship

htwIndian women’s wrestling team proved its mettle in the Cadet World Championship held at Athens. India managed to grab the second position after clinching two gold and four bronze medals. This was India’s best-ever finish in the competition. Important thing here is that coach of Indian team for this competition was from Himachal. Ghumarwin’s Yograj was coach for the Indian team and under his guidance, team India proved performed outstandingly. From India, Anshu and Sonam won gold medals as women’s wrestling team finished second behind Japan in the Cadet World Championship. The 2-0 win against Japan’s Naomi Ruike in the 60kg final saw India finishing with two gold and four bronze medals (total 69 points) on the final day of women’s competition. Japan ended with 94 points for the top spot while Russia was third with 58 points. The other Indian wrestlers in action, however, failed to cross the semifinal hurdle and had to settle for bronze. Simran thrashed Caitlyn Ann Walker of USA 10-0 to win in the 40kg, Manisha defeated Spaniard Ana Maria Torres Rubio 3-2 in the 46kg and Minakshi beat Moldova’s Mariana Dragutan 6-2 in the 52kg respectively.

Himachal’s Harjeet Wins Silver In World Martial Arts Games

htwHarjeet Kumar of Himachal once again proved his mettle and won silver medal in the 11th World Martial Arts Games at Orlando. He won silver medal in under-belt kumite category. He also won a bronze medal in self defence event. Last year too, he had clinched silver medal in this championship. The Indian contingent won a total of 11 medals in this category including six gold medals. In junior grappling, Sumit bagged gold in under 65 kg category. Preeti Sarkar sealed gold medal in under-45 kg category in Taekwondo. Shubhendu, Shreyansh, Ashish and Sukhveer also won gold medals for the country. Notably, Divya Himachal had extended financial help to establish Harjeet as a successful martial arts player.
