Disaster At Kotrupi

This is regarding Himachal This Week’s cover story of August 19, 2017, “Disaster At Kotrupi”. The tragic incident has stunned all as many lives were lost in this mishap. It has also brought to the fore the need to evolve a separate developmental model for hilly areas. Landslides are incresaing every year due to unscientific cutting of hillocks for widening of raods across the state. The government should keep in mind all aspects while constructing roads as hills here are considered to be fragile in nature. The state also needs to put in place a proper disaster management plan to tackle any urgency.

Undertake Plantation

The government should strive to undertake massive plantation drive in 1300 acres vacant land between Jwali and Pong Dam if it is serious to conserve environment. It will enhance green cover, help in improving environment and promote tourism activities in the area. Surprisingly, land mafia people have illegaly encroached upon this land for the last three to four decades and degrading ecology by undertaking illegal activities here. The government should pay attention to undertake plantation in this area.
