An Election Without Full Force In Himachal

Himachal This Week

The recent allocation of tickets by both the main political parties in Himachal has left some gaps in the list so far with nine unfilled vacancies in the Congress and many BJP candidates reportedly turning rebels to pose a challenge for the party. Intriguing nine missing in the list of the Congress are reminders of Bhai Bahtija electoral compromise or what could be better turned as Beta Beti favouring strategy, political observers point out. The reason is mostly the sons or relations entering the fray with their own parents.

Fortunately its realisation has kept Bharti Neeraj out of consideration yielding to his father and so some others. However in case of son of Chief Minister or Speaker or senior ministers, the consideration by the party high command was still awaited. The BJP on the other hand has totally eliminated such situation by ensuring elimination of dynasty favours.

Female power in the saffron party did show great verve as they fielded six players against three of the Congress. Virbhadra Singh has been declared to lead the election campaign. Same style is not followed by the BJP. Had BJP given command to Prem Kumar Dhumal he would have shown better results for the party, political observers feel. Himachal This Week survey clearly reveals the general public opinion to the extent of 53% voting for declaration of a BJP leader in Himachal.  In this respect, Congress CM fought for the free hand and was ultimately given by the high command. The Congress will certainly gain from this clarity of leadership in the campaign and announcing Virbhadra Singh as its chief ministerial candidate, political observers point out.

Rebellions are being observed in both the parties but the rebels in BJP are reportedly more in number due to their high expectations that have been raised. Situation is bound to remain in melting pot till the nominations are filed and withdrawal completed. The battle is now on by declaration of the warriors and strategic alliances on the ground. Some retired warriors like Vidya Stokes who virtually took sanyas from the electoral politics returned to the ground.
