New Political Permutations

Many permutations were witnessed in the backdrop of state’s aspirations during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally at Bilaspur. Prime Minister’s speech at Luhnu ground apparently had underlining meaning while he praised the performance of Jagat Prakash Nadda as Union Minister. Modi visit was aimed at giving developmental projects to the state but different meanings would be construed regarding what he handed over to the state and BJP. Credit for holding rally in Bilaspur would definitely go to Nadda even as there was no clarity about BJP’s leadership issue in the state. Whether Modi’s consent to rally point towards future leadership or not? One can’t say as it is not that easy to understand Prime Minister. But one thing was clear that new political permutations have emerged in the period between last Lok Sabha elections and upcoming state assembly elections.  The state BJP will highlight Bilaspur rally in its every election meeting but the town couldn’t get anything new from Prime Minister. Steel plant at Kandrori in Kangra and IIIT in Una also figured along with the foundation stone of AIIMS but there was no mention about oustees of Bhakhra and Pong dams. It is also a fact that the state has to plead repeatedly while raising the issue of displaced persons with the centre. Himachal’s sacrifices and efforts in cleanliness drive were lauded but there was silence over state’s concerns. Prime Minister mentions about his close affinity with Himachal but it did not translate into any announcement at Bilaspur. Himachal’s tourism economy requires centre’s patronage and not only nice words. The hilly state has been waiting for railways expansion but such assurances have been restricted to surveys only until now. Why Modi stayed away from laying the foundation stone of Central University of Himachal Pradesh? This question will now be asked from the BJP and not the Congress. Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has felt political pulse of Himachal but it will not put an end to leadership and other issues. More questions remain unanswered than those solved in Bilaspur rally.
