To Make Ancient Tradition Alive

For next three days, people will have a special cultural bonanza as the 300 years old International Lavi Fair commences today. International Lavi Fair is largely popular for the trade and exhibition of special goods and products. This year’s Lavi Fair began with the exhibition of ‘Chamurthi’ horses, which was held recently. Cultural programmes, exhibitions of different other things mark this popular fair every year. Many traders from all parts of country come here during the month of November to lure customers and popularize their art and craft. Numbers of shops are established and goods are sold during the fair. A lot of trading activity is carried on.

However, there are several customs that are followed to this day before the commencement of the business. The surefooted ‘Chaumrthi’ horses, especially found in the nearby tribal areas like Kinnaur were brought in here at the fair to be sold. This exhibition was held before the official commencement of the fair. Apart from the Horses, woolen pattoos, kala zira and dry fruits are also brought to be sold in the Lavi Fair. For cultural nights, people are ready to listen the enchanting music by 85 local artists.
