Dissenting Voices After Omission From Cabinet

After Bharatiya Janata Party got thumping majority in Himachal assembly elections 2017, the mood is upbeat among party workers across the state. However, swearing in ceremony of the BJP government left supporters of many MLAs disappointed as their leaders were not inducted in the Council Of Ministers. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur took oath along with 11 other ministers thus fulfilling all the berths in the Cabinet in one go.

Political observers point that Jai Ram Thakur’s Cabinet is a blend of experience and youth. However, supporters of many leaders feel that their areas have been ignored by not inducting MLAs in the Cabinet. There were dissenting voices on the swearing in ceremony day when supporters of Jubbal Kotkhai MLA Narendra Bragta and Bhatiyat MLA Vikram Jaryal raised their dissent as these two leaders did not figure in the Council of Ministers. They even met senior party leaders to express their concern who were able to pacify them.

The latest dissenting voices have surfaced from Jwalamukhi assembly segment where people of other backward classes feel ignored as MLA Ramesh Dhawala was left out of the Cabinet. Notably, Dhawala was instrumental in formation of the BJP government after he withdrew his support from the Congress in 1998. He had won as independent MLA after the party had denied ticket to him in 1998 assembly elections.

The OBC leaders from different constituencies along with their supporters gathered at Ramesh Dhawala’s residence in Jwalamukhi to express their dissent over non-inclusion of Dhawala in Cabinet. The party will suffer loss in next Lok Sabha elections, they added.

The BJP Mandal office bearers along with others even handed over their resignations to Jwalamukhi MLA. Ramesh Dhawala, however, asked his supporters to remain calm as there must have been some compulsions. He also assured of all round development of the constituency with the support of Chief Minister.
