New Beginning

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur exhibited a balanced conduct even before taking oath indicating his assertiveness. We can hope for a simple and acceptable work culture in government functioning if state’s chief minister assures to stay away from the VIP culture. It is one of the main reasons behind gap between the people and government. Leaders often create a shell and remain surrounded by a coterie after assuming a government post. Electorate have demolished such inner circles in these elections thus rejecting the VIP culture prevalent in state politics. Decision on tired and retired officials holding key government positions assures of good governance in future. The governments were running by ignoring this aspect of employees’ policy. Irrelevant extensions without any justification were always indicative of a wrong tradition. Previous governments have been ignoring transparent transfer norms and such policies. Discipline and accountability will increase in government functioning if Jai Ram’s government takes care of such aspects. Certain decisions of the previous government should be reviewed in the backdrop of state’s limited economic resources. Certain developmental decisions reflect government’s continuity and should honourably be implemented. Chief Minister’s vision will be analysed based on government’s decisions in future. He has shown political maturity by announcing status quo about relevance of Himachal’s second capital   thus giving importance to Kangra. The largest district played important role in BJP government’s formation and importance must be given to permanent pillars established here. Previous BJP government paid the price for targeting Kangra but Jai Ram is showing strong intent to establish a middle path to strengthen the bridge connecting Kangra with Mandi.

Thought of the Week

The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals.
