Chief Minister Sensitive To People’s Aspirations
Himachal This Week
The BJP government led by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur is trying to establish its authority by changing traditions. Initiatives like strengthening chief minister’s relief fund through salaries of ministers and staying away from flower bouquet will definitely enhance government’s image. It can also be an effort to reach out to people’s aspirations as government can find ways if it intends to do so.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has been sharing his viewpoint without any hesitation. A release by Information and Public Relations Department is enough for the media but there is a tradition to get government’s feeling by interacting directly with the Chief Minister. The government will be under pressure to deliver while reviewing the decisions of the previous government. It also faces the challenge to take decisions on certain schemes of the previous Virbhadra government. If image of Himachal Police and law and order situation has to be improved by changing Director General of Police, then the government also needs to reach out to masses through Information and Public Relations Department to project its image, political observers feel.
Certain decisions of the previous government will be revoked but the government will have to adopt a positive political approach in the wake of upcoming Lok Sabha elections due next year. Political observers feel that there is a scientific and psychological meaning of having a media advisor that can also be a research topic as the media has percolated to the villages during past decades. It is now a blend of newspapers published from Himachal that raise concerns of this hilly state to project state’s image at the national level. Political observers point out that there should be a platform to hold discussions with senior editors as it would strengthen Himachal’s viewpoint in the backdrop of national policies.
The post of media advisor will become a formality if it fails to fulfill professional requirements. It is also an opportunity to strengthen Information and Public Relations Department, they add.
