Twenty one years old Anchal Thakur, hailing from Manali in Himachal, has brought laurels by winning a bronze medal for india in the Alpine Edger 3200 cup organised by International Ski Federation (FIS). She won in the slalom race at the Palandoken Ski Centre in Turkey. This is the first international win for India in Skiing ever.

Interacting with media, Anchal told of her patience and persistence for this big win. She said, ”It is a dream come true for me.” She added, “life is about passion; if we have passion for something, we will reach there for sure”. This is a big moment for the sport in India. Winter Games Federation of India showered wishes and blessings on the champion. She is daughter of secretary general, WGFI, Roshan Thakur. The family hails from Manali. Prime Minister, Narender Modi tweeted for her. He wished and congratulated Anchal for her historical achievement. Minister of State (Sports), Rajayavardhan Singh Rathore also expressed his delight.

CM Announces Rs. 5 lakh to Thakur

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur announced that state government would provide cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh to Anchal Thakur who won bronze medal in world Skiing competition. Chief Minister said that the government was coming up with a plan for systematic development of sports infrastructure.
