Financial Help For Herbs Conservation In Himachal

The
villages in Himachal putting in efforts to conserve its biodiversity will also get a pie of share of profit made by business of herbal products. Private companies who collect herbs from Himachal will give a share of their profit to villages through biodiversity board. Notably, biodiversity management committees are being constituted at village level to conserve herbal wealth of the area.        The government will soon sign an agreement with Dabur, a renowned name in herbal products. The private companies collect herbs from this hilly state in large amount, profit of which will be distributed to villages too. The amount received will be used for development of village and conservation of herbs found in the area.      Under the proposed agreement, the company will give Rs. 35 lakh annually to biodiversity board, a share of which will be distributed to village committees. The state biodiversity board recently organised a workshop on biodiversity conservation with concerned stakeholders in Shimla. Experts in the workshop said that Himachal is a home to a large number of herbs in large quantity, efforts to conserve which should be made. Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister (Environment Science & Technology, Information & Public Relation, Tourism & Civil Aviation), Manisha Nanda, who was also chief guest on the occasion said that biodiversity management committees have been constituted in four districts. Efforts in these committees are on for last one year.          This year four more districts will be added in this national campaign, she added. The campaign was first started in Kullu, Chamba, Sirmaur and Shimla districts and this year Kinnaur, Lahaul Spiti, Mandi and Kangra districts will be added in this campaign. She said that board will make special provisions for marketing of herbs in near future.

Rs. 1 Lakh Each To Panchayats

Panchayats of four selected districts in the state were provided a financial help of Rs. 1 lakh each for conservations of herbs. Committees were also constituted in these districts which yielded good results. Every family will now be associated with this campaign at panchayat level.
