Educational Standards

It appears that there is possibility of a solution to basic problems in the education sector as Himachal minister Suresh Bhardwaj has set targets to achieve. Deterioration in quality of education was witnessed as this sector witnessed expansion. The standards nosedived as number of educational institutes in government sector increased. The society needs to support as education minister is for the first time trying to feel the pulse in this sector rather than counting buildings of institutes. Political appeasement resulted in over expansion of educational institutes while educational standards were pushed to the back stage. Private educational institutes flourished and we construed it as educational hub but the minister has identified the right problem. Educational aims can be identified while keeping teaching fraternity in the fore front. A working, disciplined and honest transfer policy is must for achieving goals in education sector.  Education is not merely restricted to exam results but is also about giving direction to the future generations. Values disintegrated as educational sector witnessed unnecessary expansion. It would be better if irrelevant schools are closed and backdoor recruitments be stopped. We believe that some of the government schools in urban areas should be run under CBSE and ICSE pattern or under prestigious school chains by taking these institutes out of the ambit of Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education. Policies of education board should also incorporate quality of education, career guidance for students and inspiration for future. It can also admit students in academy based on high school merits. New norms can be established for preparing students for competitive exams. Education board should be developed as a centre to prepare for national level exams besides setting such centres in universities also. Education minister’s hint to change the pattern of higher studies reflects that priority would be given to need and areas based research. Centres based on defence studies, art and culture, geological sciences, music, tribal issues are not visible in chain of colleges in Himachal while understanding the importance of a sports college.
