Political Analysis

Himachal This Week

No more green or maroon caps symbolising two different political parties with green reportedly standing for the Congress and latter for the BJP. Other caps too exist denoting different regions of the state like Kullu cap and Kinnauri cap depict the localities.

In fact if one sees a crowd of different caps, Himachal represents a colourful panorama of head dresses. But now first time in the politics of Himachal, a Chief Minister has ordained that there shall be no more dividing lines and he will work in the interest of whole state. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has enshrined new politics that has three positive declarations. Austerity and simplicity will be observed even in welcome functions. Second commandment is stop wastage of money and stop lavish expenditure with a view to contain the fiscal deficit of Himachal state that is going out of control. This means the economy should be observed in all state matters to contain the expenditure.

Third principal is to ensure cleanliness with swacchata drive being followed. With all these good intentions of the CM, the opposition has lashed out at him for reckless transfer spree. Recently he transferred cadre officers at the spot where he was visiting, in this case Una-Haroli and Solan.

Besides these transfers, he has already shifted hundreds of officers and staff that is being resented by the service employees. But worse such transfers have become the laughing stock of opposition who have called Chief Minister a “transfer mantri”. One wishes he improves governance of the state that has languished during last phase of the previous government due to too much politics or application of code of conduct for elections, political observers point out. It is expected that he will announce his policies and reforms during the budget and out of the deliberation in crucial allocation of priorities. Real politics will begin now.
