Cine Tourism

Forest and Transport Minister expressed Himachal’s concern towards cine tourism and the matter was discussed in Cabinet. Himachal has registered its presence in this field due to efforts of few film coordinators even as the hilly state is always ready to promote it as tourism booster. All types of cinema has been associated with Himachal as they have been shooting their films here. Now the time has come to give it an organised shape. Shooting of films here with consolidate Brand Himachal and also generate employment opportunities for hospitality sector and local artists. Every government has been touching cine tourism but couldn’t define it clearly.  Cine tourism is not granting permission for shooting only but also functioning of a proper system. The problem will not be solved only by inviting film producers and director but by providing fully equipped studios and facilities at film locations. It is yet to be ascertained whether film shooting is associated with administrative approval or a subject related to law and order situation. Ironically, there is no budgetary proposal in this direction.  Himachal will become self reliant if efforts are put in to make it a tourism state. Cine tourism is directly linked to employment through television serials rather than film industry. It can be explored through many ways; firstly by understanding Himachali artists, producers, directors and those having interest and potential in television field in state’s context. A state level training institute becomes imperative as talented Himachalis are exploring employment opportunities in films and television every year. There has to be decisive clarity about infrastructural facilities in Himachal that has attained important place in film and television industry. Grant and promotional schemes need to be formulated for Himachali films and artists. Priority should be given for investment in multiplexes, entertainment parks and other such investment areas by according industry status to the entertainment. It will also enhance tourists’ stay in this hilly state.  Internal and external aspects of cine tourism should be strengthened to upgrade facilities at heritage sites also. A comprehensive project and norms are required to expand air connectivity across Himachal. Certain studios should be developed on PPP mode for film and television shooting and also a film city in Garli Pragpur to promote cine and rural tourism.
