Himachal Is Home To 809 Beggars

The Union Government has released the figures of number of beggars in India. According to figures, there are about 4.13 lakh beggars, including 2.22 lakh male and 1.91 lakh female beggars, in India. Himachal Pradesh too has not remain untouched of this scary picture. They reveal presence of 809 beggars, including 504 men and 305 women, in hill state as well. Social Welfare Minister Thawarchand Gehlot released this data in his Lok Sabha. However, he did not disclose as to how many out of a total of 809 beggars in Himachal are locals.

According to the data released by Union Government, West Bengal stands at top position as for as presence of beggars in the state is concerned. The strength of beggars here stands at 81,244. Uttar Pradesh stood at second position with 65,835 beggars present there followed by Bihar with a strength of 29,723 beggars. Lakshadweep is in best condition in this perspective. Here presence of only two beggars was found according to data. The strength of female beggars is much larger in Manipur and West Bengal as compared to male counterparts. Besides this, Madhya Pradesh hasa total of 28,695 beggars including 17,506 male and 11,189 female. The strength of beggars stands at 13,445 in Gujarat while Punjab and Haryana have 7,939 and 8,682 beggars respectively.

The further analysis of data of beggars in the country reveals that Eastern states are in much better condition, as the strength of beggars was found least in these states. Arunchal Pradesh is home to only 114 beggars, Nagaland have 124 beggars while Mizoram is home to only 53 beggars. According to figures, there are 22 beggars in Union Territory Daman and Diu and two in Lakshadweep.

The data released by union government revealed one more fact that hill states too does not have much strength of beggars. Uttarakhand is home to 3,320 beggars while there are only 809 beggars in Himachal Pradesh. Heart of India Delhi have 2,187 beggars.
