Himachal TO Get Modern Driving Schools

Hamirpur : The Union Government has given a unique gift in the form of modern driving training school to Himachal Pradesh to bring down the graph of road accidents in the hill state. Under the plan, driving school will be opened in all 12 districts of the state and driving licences will be given on the basis of results of these driving schools. The Union Government has also released a grant of Rs. 1 crore for each driving school. The state government has been asked to send the proposal after identifying the land for these modern driving schools. The state government has also directed all deputy collectors, sub divisional magistrates and HRTC regional officers to identify the land for the same. The power to run these modern driving schools could either be vested to Himachal Road Transport Corporation or private organisations.

Jaundice Claims Two Lives In Himachal

Shimla: The state government and Shimla Municipal Corporation claimed to have done much improvement in health sector after jaundice outbreak jolted Shimla and other parts of Himachal in 2015-16. But all those big claims have proved hollow once again, as the water-borne disease claimed two lives while 67 persons were tested positive till date this year. Shimla reported maximum 15 cases followed by nine in Mandi. The first death due to jaundice was reported from Sundernagar on January 14 while the second was reported from Shimla on March 15. As many as 67 people have been tested positive for jaundice so far. Out of them, 47 were tested positive for Hepatitis-A, 18 for Hepatitis-E, while two persons were tested positive for both Hepatitis-A and E. “The department has increased surveillance and monitoring of jaundice cases,” said an official of the Health Department. “But intermittent rain after a dry spell results in the flow of muddy water in water sources, thus increasing the chance of jaundice outbreak,” he said. “The Shimla Municipal Corporation, IPH and Health Department have already issued advisory to residents to drink only boiled water,” he added.
