Shrinking Space For Sports

This is regarding Himachal This Week’s cover story of February 17, 2018, “Shrinking Space For Sports”. Himachali sportspersons are winning medals at national and international level thus bringing laurels for the country and this hilly state. However, much needs to be done for providing sports infrastructure, traning facilities and playgrounds. Being a hilly state, big sports grounds are available at few places even as specific grounds for cricket, athletics, hockey and others were developed during past two decades. The government and sports department should ensure that sportsgrounds are not used for any non-sports activities like holding of various melas and trade fairs. In adition, the government should also take initiatives to develop community grounds for various activities around major towns in this hilly state.

Preserve Bathu Ki Lari

Bathu ki lari, Badri Vishal temple and other temples built by Pandvas   have come out of Pong Lake as the water level has gone down. Thousands of vistors from neighbouring states are visiting this pictursque location every day. Upper storey of Bathu ki lari has been damged completly. These temples remain under water for about seven months. The state and Centre should pay attention towards this invaluable heritage. Steps should be taken to conserve these temples for future generations to have a glimpse of the history.
