Border-Gavaskar Trophy Dharamshala Set For A Blockbuster

NEWSNEWSHimachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) cricket stadium at Dharamshala will host the first ever Test match when India and Australia clash here in the final Test beginning March 25 to decide Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The series at present is even at 1-1. Both the teams had arrived here earlier this week and undergoing rigorous practice sessions. The picturesque stadium in Dharamshala couldn’t have asked for a better debut as test venue with both the teams engaged in extremely competitive cricket during the ongoing series.

Promoting Hockey

In another endeavour to promote sports in Himachal, Divya Himachal brings out the achievements of successful coaches. They have put in hard work to tap and groom young budding sportspersons. In this series, here comes the name of hockey coach Pradeep Kalia who not only brought laurels to the state by achieving milestones but also helped in grooming of many young hockey players.

NEWSAfter bringing laurels to the state many times in hockey, Pradeep Kalia is now coaching young Himachalis. Pradeep Kalia, who learned hockey with famous players like Ashok Bhardwaj, Yodhraj Sharma and SP Das is not only a hockey coach but also a national umpire. Hockey players trained by him are rendering services in different departments. Notably, as many as 200 of his hockey trainees have participated in various national hockey championships. IN addition, he a trained paraglider having a national award in this adventure sports.

Born on March 1, 1968, Kalia was interested keenly in sports since his childhood. After realising his attraction for hockey at the age of 13 years, he turned towards this sports to pursue his passion. Whenever, he found senior players playing hockey, he used to accompany them. And when he learned the skills to play hockey, his coach provided him a chance to play with seniors.

After playing the first championship at school level, he was immediately selected for the state level championship. Thereafter, he never looked back and achieved many milestones in hockey. Expressing concern over the deteriorating condition of hockey in the state, he said that there is a need of giving more attention to this sport. Ample facilities should be provided to players so that they can concentrate on this sport, he added.


* Played five senior and seven junior nationals besides three inter-university championships. Also attended India camp twice

* Regular umpire in national hockey championships, Premier Hockey League and World Hockey Series

Himachal’s Gaurav-Kunal Shine In SAJOBA 2017

NEWSGaurav Angra of Bilaspur with his navigator Kunal Kashyap of Shoghi brought laurels to the state as he achieved third position in SAJOBA Rally 2017 held in Chandigarh. They participated from St. John’s Old Boys’ Association, Chandigarh. It is for the third time that Gaurav has proved his mettle in this prestigious driving rally. In the Xtreme category, a total of 25 contestants participated from across the country, in which the pair of Gaurav and Kunal secured third position. They received a cash prize of Rs. 20, 000 along with other attractive prizes. Gaurav, while speaking to Himachal This Week told that it is just the beginning as he wants to be a successful motorsports rallyist.
