Dissenting Voices at Nagrota
Nagrota rally reflected Transport Minister GS Bali’s standing in the government’s two year rule. It was Balli’s stage and management for the rally as neither government nor organisation was present on the occasion. Bali, nevertheless, collected dissenting medals by roping in Vidya Stokes and two MLAs? Are Vidya Stokes and Rajesh Dharmani planning to start a new innings in the midst of Nagrota challenges? Presence of one MLA from Kangra Pawan Kajal in Balli’s rally can’t represent Congress and his effort to emerge as regional leader doesn’t gain strength in the wake of absence of other MLAs from the area. Balli’s rallies have been strengthening his political base in Nagrota. His objectives were clear this time also but the message couln’t establish as whose future was secured on this platform. People will always pose questions even as Bali pleaded the issue of conductor’s recruitment to some extent through media. The minister’s platform was hinting at more recruitment also. How is Bali celebrating his governemnt’s two year in office by obliquly attacking another strong minister Sudhir Sharma from Kangra district? The vision was not clear while treading the model path of siding with unemployed youths. Bali is banking on certain points in his favour to establish his dominance in the district. His charisma witnessed during the previous Virbhadra governments has been confined to Nagrota-Kangra in this tenure if objections from within Congress on conductor’s recruitment issue are any indication. Bali never came to the fore front as a responsible opposition MLA when there were efforts to divide Kangra district in previous Dhumal government. The then minister Kishan Kapoor came out openly against the move but Bali remained silent. Will Bali be able to create a chain like Late Saligram, Mankotia, Sushant and Kishan Kapoor develop? History says that Mankotia and Sushant were two main leaders who raised voices of Kangra’s dissent. It is difficult to control Kangra from one platform as it had stopped BJP’s Mission Repeat. The BJP had planned to repeat the government minus Kangra but results were different. Virbhadra is opposing the idea of dividing Kangra keeping this factor in mind and it is a political truth that former chief minister and MP Shanta Kumar is showering praises on him. Mankotia and Sushant suffered by criticising their governments and the same danger is surrounding Bali.
