The cool and peaceful environment of Himachal is very near to perfect for studies. This is also one of the reasons why Himachal is making constant strides and improvement in the field of education and youth have started searching career opportunities in competitive exams. Shilpa Sharma, a Himachali girl from Baijnath has proved that youth of Himachal is all set to prove their mettle even in national competitive turf by securing 81th rank in Indian Administrative Services exam. And the positive inclination for competitive exams has surfaced among Himachal’s youth at a period when there is lack of facilities needed for the preparation of competitive exams. Therefore it becomes imperative to open such academies in Himachal where youth can prepare for different competitive exams. Since the level of competitive exams is different from general board exams, therefore cracking them on one’s own is a little difficult. There might be some exceptions. But still some guidance and help is required to crack these hard nuts. Many students hailing from rural areas filled with energy and inspiration to emerge successful in competitive exams takes admission in coaching institutes in cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Allahabad, Patna, Lucknow, Jaipur etc and spends thousands of money there. And it is here the process of their exploitation begin. However these students can be saved from exploitation if the state government takes initiative of opening such institutes in Himachal. There are plenty of retired IAS, IPS, IFS and Army officers in Himachal that have served at top posts. The government can take help of their experience to guide and coach the candidates of Himachal preparing for competitive exams. The retired officials are also ready to provide their services for noble cause but government needs to take initiative in this direction. Such academies should be opened in every district of Himachal where talented youth from deprived families could be provided coaching for competitive exams. This will also help in linking downtrodden section of the society with the mainstream. The government infrastructure could be used for this initiative. Various libraries run by state government could also prove beneficial in this initiative. The importance of these libraries will increase if they are linked with the academies opened for the preparation of competitive exams. It is expected that state government will take an affective initiative in this direction.
