Himachal This Week
Senior BJP leader Shanta Kumar may have come out of political hibernation but people still like his conduct in the party. Similarly two times former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal keeps BJP’s hopes alive even if he is not handed over party’s reins reportedly due to the age factor. The Congress party has faced tough opposition from him during four years tenure of the present government.
The BJP’s present caravan is exploring politics of new era even as election results of five states present different possibilities for the party in Himachal. The BJP will definitely analyse questions linked to results of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab for a political analysis. A loud din about new era of politics is emerging from Uttar Pradesh and it was felt at BJP’s rally in Dharamshala also, political observers point out.
The BJP is looking for issues to launch a direct attack on the government by accusing it of mafia raj, deteriorating law and order situation and drugs. How much the BJP can gain on the issue of regionalism? With Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh riding on unemployment allowance announcement, other leaders including Kaul Singh Thakur, GS Bali, Mukesh Agnihotri and Sudhir Sharma have strengthened their bastion. Based on their performance, these leaders are likely to give a tough time to the opposition.
Second capital is not an issue but a moral decision as smart city is not a creation but can be considered as an achievement, political observers point out. Will BJP be able to find new winning candidates against these Congress bigwigs? No doubt, the state BJP is buoyant over prevailing Modi factor but questions will also be asked about party’s failure in Punjab. It also remains to be seen whether circumstances witnessed in Uttarakhand again be repeated to break Congress party in Himachal.
