Khalsa Club Amritsar Wins Football Tourney

Khalsa Club, Amritsar team emerged victorious in the 29th All India Shahid Durga Mal Dal Bahadur Football Tournament held at Police Ground in Dharamshala. The final match was played between Khalsa Club, Amritsar and 11 GRCC, Lucknow teams, in which former thrashed the latter through penalty shootout. Both the teams couldn’t score during the regulation time. So, the winner was decided through penalty shootout. Khalsa Club, Amritsar scored four goals while 11 GRCC team could score only three goals. Vinod Vantwa for his brilliant skills was declared best player, while, Manvir Singh of Khalsa Club, Amritsar team was declared best goalkeeper of the tournament. A total of eight teams from across the country participated in the tournament, including Indian Air Force, Nohar Football Club, Rajasthan, Khalsa Football Club, Amritsar, Do Like Football Club, Jalandhar, J&K United and HPFA team. Two teams from Army, 11 GRCC, Lucknow, and 39GTC Banaras also took part in the tournament.

This tournament is organised to commemorate the memory of two great martyrs Major Durga Mal and Captain Dal Bahadur who had laid down their lives for the motherland. Both the brave soldiers hailed from Gorkha community of Dharamshala and were serving in 2/1 Gorkha Rifles. Later they joined Indian National Army in 1942 raised by Netaji Subhash Chander Bose, when the Second World War was at its peak. Major Durga Mal was captured by the British troops on March 27, 1944 and was sent to gallows on August 25, 1944 at the Red Fort, Delhi at the age of 31 years. Captain Dal Bahadur was captured on June 28, 1944 and was executed on May 3, 1945 at the age of 38 years.

Divya Himachal Football League Trials Conclude

As trials for Divya Himachal Football League have concluded, the eight franchise teams have finalised players for their teams. The last trial was held at Chamba Ground in Nahan to select Sirmour Royalsteam. Enthusiastic participants gathered to fight for a chance in the team. Coach Manuj Sharma judged the players as IPS Monika, present on the occasion, cheered all the participants. Now eight teams have been finalised for the Divya Himachal Football League. This soccer festival would be one of its kind event in the state, aimed at providing a boost to the football players in Himachal.

3 Players For National Karate Championship

Three karate players from Baijnath have been selected for the national championship to be held at Talkatora stadium in Delhi from May 11 to May 14. Himachal Karate Association coach Purshotam Thakur told that three players, Arshdeep Kaur, Yogesh and Jasdeep, have made their place in the state team for the national championship after they secured gold medals in the state karate championship held in Baijnath.
