htwChromotherapy alias Colour Therapy is an alternative healing method that uses the seven colours (violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red) of solar spectrum to improve the mental welfare and health of the human body. The word ‘chromo’ is derived from the Greek word, meaning ‘colour’. Chromotherapy literally means curative treatment by means of colours and is also known by the names Colour Therapy, Light Therapy, Helio Therapy or Colourology. Colour therapy has been in practice for over thousands of years ago to cure various ailments including depression, eczema, high blood pressure, menstrual problems etc. Colour therapy also helps people to enhance their immune system, improve their ability to learn and create, remove stress and enhance happiness. According to Colour Therapy, many disorders and diseases in humans are caused by the imbalance in the body’s energy centers or Chakras. The therapy believes that imbalance occur in the physical, emotional, spiritual and mental levels of humans, because of lack of sunlight or a particular colour in the human system, and balance could be restored by providing appropriate colour. Colour healing is based on the belief that the entire spectrum of colours is derived from sunlight and in the light spectrum, each colour vibrates at different frequency. Each of the seven main colours form the aura around our body, and it is important to balance and blend these colours in our lives. Colours have their own frequency and vibration, and plays a role in removing stress and creating happiness. The vibration of colours transmit energy, which is used to balance the body’s energy centers.

Nature Of Work

Even though, Chromotherapy treatment has been in practice in India from earlier times, career opportunities in this field are relatively few because this ancient form of therapy is neither well-known nor accepted by the common public. Qualified persons in this field can work as Chromotherapists in hospitals, naturopathy clinics, nature cure health centres offering alternative medicines, or can open their own therapy clinic. To achieve success in the field of Colour therapy, one need to build up and maintain sound reputation and client base. Chromotherapists can even do research work or join the field of education. Since Colour Therapy combines with other therapies, practitioners like reflexologists, acupuncturists and other healthcare professionals could offer colour therapy techniques as part of their practice. There is no defined working hours for Chromotherapists. They can choose their own working hours or offer evening and weekend appointments according to the requirements of the clients.

Pay Packet

Institutes

In India, only few institutions are offering courses in Chromo Therapy/Colour Therapy as an independent subject. Most colleges teach Chromotherapy as one of the subjects in the 5 ½-year Bachelor of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences (BNYS) course. Find Employment as Braille Transcriber

htwFor blind and low vision readers, the job of the braille transcriber is invaluable and there is a shortage of braille transcribers in most states. For the student interested in ensuring literacy for everyone, employment as a braille transcriber might be a good choice. The job of a braille transcriber is to translate printed text into braille for blind and low-vision readers. Whether transcribing novels, textbooks, or other documents, braille transcribers are responsible for conveying the information accurately. Therefore, they must ensure that they capture the nuances, subtleties, or similar elements of the written word. There are several different categories of braille transcription, including literary transcription, mathematical and music transcription, and proofreading for braille.

Eligibility

Braille transcribers can earn certification from the Library of Congress’ National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. This process includes passing a free literary braille transcription course, which can be taken online, in classes, or through correspondence. In order to take the course and to become a braille transcriber, students need braille paper and either a braillewriter, a 40-cell desk slate or a computer with a six-key direct input software program. After completion of the course, students must submit a 35-page transcription. After six months of working as a transcriber, students may continue on to take courses in braille proofreading or braille transcription for math or music.

Job Opportunities

The career opportunities for braillists have clearly changed over the years (to the distinct consternation of some of the interview respondents!). With more women now assuming professional roles in the workplace, the number of purely volunteer braille transcribers has dwindled significantly. In addition to the “traditional” positions of teachers of the visually-impaired (who are often, but not always, braille transcribers by default!), more and more career positions are available. A number of transcribers have established their own “at-home” businesses, investing in computers and printers. These businesses typically work on a “per-page” basis. A number of the respondents mentioned that they are seeing more “braille production specialists”, para-professionals whose job it is to type manuscripts into a word processor (such as WordPerfect), and then use one of several braille transcription software packages to produce the braille document. Braille transcribers may be employed through braille publishing companies, organizations for the blind, school districts, libraries, business, government agencies and personal clients.

Remuneration

According to the AFB survey, the range of annual salary for full time, certified transcribers is Rs. 40,000 to 60,000, plus benefits. When paid by the hour, the range of payment is Rs. 400 to 800.
