Vast Career Options In Beauty Care
‘Beauty care’ that helps people look their best, is a field for those who have an eye for beauty and enjoy interaction with others. With the work environment getting increasingly competitive and professional, and the growing awareness of health and beauty among men and women, the need to appear well-groomed and attractive has assumed greater importance in today’s world. This has resulted in the growth of beauty products and beauty treatments, turning beauty care into a fast growing and lucrative career. Broadly Cosmetology includes everything from beauty therapy to health care. Work in this field involves the knowledge and use of a range of treatments and equipments to enhance the appearance of the face, body and hair. The main task of a beautician is to give an attractive appearance to their clients. In this field, success has no relationship to the age of the practitioner. Although tastes and trends in beauty keep on changing, the basic job of a beautician/ beauty care professionals remain the same. Hairstyling, skin care, cosmetics, manicures / pedicures, and electrology are the specializations or various fields of Cosmetology. This is one field, one can easily get into and be successful. Since the working medium of this field is a live person, it is one of the most rewarding of all art works.
Eligibility
One has to be minimum 10th pass. Knowledge of products, treatments and the ability to talk to the client properly is given. If one is not technically sound, it becomes very difficult to survive here. Students looking to get into cosmetology or skin aesthetics must be 12th pass with science background plus Bachelors of Science is important.
Job Prospects
The options are unlimited. It is important to recognize that this is the age of super-specialization. From white collar jobs like salon manager, beauty teacher, manager, cosmetic expert, sales assistant at a mall to beautician, aesthetician, permanent makeup artist, cosmetologist…the possibilities of a career are limitless. Depending on your liking and aptitude, one can make a choice. Students can also look at freelancing and working from home if they do not wish to commit to a full-time job.
Remuneration
One can earn a minimum of Rs 5000 a month and there is no upper cap on earning. It can go up to lacs depending on the career route chosen and the amount of hard work put in. A make-up artiste charges anywhere from Rs.500 to Rs.4,000 to do a bridal or photographic make-up. During season the pay scale may increases twofold. For makeup and hair dressing in advertising campaigns one can earn around Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500 for a day’s work. In modelling assignments, the pay scale is much higher and it would be around Rs 3,500 or more per day depending on the top-line-professionals.
